What are your legal obligations?
Since 2015, it has been a legal requirement that all online Word and PDF documents published by government can be read, using assistive technologies, by people who are blind or have low vision. All levels of government, councils and agencies funded by or working for government or councils, must meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards.
What’s different about accessible documents?

To make online Word and PDF documents accessible, they must be edited, designed and formatted to make them as easy as possible for people with vision impairments to read. The process allows assistive technology (such as computer screen readers) to 'read' the documents to the user. Inclusive design principles underpin our approach.
